چکیده

Nine compounds, caffeic acid, naringenin, apigenin, luteolin, kaempferol, verbascoside, isoverbascoside, isocampneoside II, and cistanoside F, were isolated from the EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions of P. coreana bark. The structures of these compounds (1-9) were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and literature data. All the isolates were subjected to in vitro bioassay to evaluate their inhibitory activity against rat lens aldose reductase. Among these, compounds 6 and 8 indicated the significant inhibitory activity on rat lens aldose reductase with IC50 values of 2.67 and 5.59 μM, respectively. Especially, The inhibition activity of acteoside was 3.9 times better than that of quercetin as a positive control (10.6 μM). These results suggested that phenylethanoid glycosides are likely to be the potential compounds for the prevention and/or treatment of diabetic complications.

Inhibition of aldose reductase by phenylethanoid glycoside isolated from the seeds of Paulownia coreana.

Aldose reductase (AR) inhibitors have considerable therapeutic potential against diabetic complications and do not increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Through bioassay-guided fractionation of the 70% acetone extract obtained from Paulownia coreana seeds, phenylpropanoid glycosides (compounds 1-4) and 5 phenolic compounds were isolated (compounds 5-9). Their structures were determined on the basi...

Effective fraction of Teucrium polium suppressed polyol pathway through inhibiting the aldose reductase enzyme: strategy to reduce retinopathy

Background: Several metabolic pathways are involved in the complications of diabetes like polyol pathway. Aldose reductase (AR) is a key enzyme in the polyol pathway, which catalyzes the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. AR inhibitors are appropriate to prevent and treat the diabetes complications. Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effect of different fractions of Teucrium ...

Aldose Reductase Inhibitory Activity of Compounds from  Zea mays L.

Aldose reductase (AR) inhibitors have a considerable therapeutic potential against diabetes complications and do not increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Through bioassay-guided fractionation of an EtOH extract of the kernel from purple corn (Zea mays L.), 7 nonanthocyanin phenolic compounds (compound 1-7) and 5 anthocyanins (compound 8-12) were isolated. These compounds were investigated by rat ...

I read with interest the article by Lee et al. entitled " Inhibitory Effect and Mechanism of Antiproliferation of Isoatriplicolide Tiglate (PCAC) from Paulownia Coreana " [1]. This article is quite interesting and the authors should be complimented for the significant amount of work they have done. The purpose of this letter is to call attention to the need for some clarification on the name of...

Free radical scavengers, antioxidants and aldose reductase inhibitors from Camptosorus sibiricus Rupr.

Flavonoids and organic acids were recommended in the literature as the main active constituents of Camptosorus sibiricus Rupr. Assay-guided fractionation led to the isolation of 9 flavonoids and 8 phenolic acids. All compounds were tested for DPPH scavenging activity, SOD-like and aldose reductase inhibition. Among them, compounds 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15 showed activities. The most activ...
